34.3  The alternating dark and light epochs of the experience of life
The pole organs regulate these basic energies in such a way that the being's consciousness and manifestation is divided into two great spheres for manifesting and experiencing life. We call these two spheres of life darkness and light. These two spheres are vital to one another. If darkness did not exist, light would not exist either. The living being experiences these two spheres in the form of a life that continues eternally. Through the dark epoch it gains the ability to experience light, and becomes thereby a human being in God's image after his likeness. In the light epoch it experiences life's most elevated form of high-intellectuality and culminating universal love and bliss. Gradually the being becomes satiated by this elevated experience of light, and degenerates thereby again to a stage where it hungers for an existence in darkness and the physical world. After the experience of darkness it becomes once again a human being in God's image after his likeness, and so on continuously.
