25.3  Animal tendencies
But these humane phenomena have the advantage that they belong to the manifestations of love that will endure, while all the animal tendencies or manifestations of darkness will perish. The killing tendencies of darkness are all dying out on the earth. But this cessation of darkness in the terrestrial human being cannot possibly be brought about by the spoken and written word alone. The world religions have talked and written about humaneness and love as the goal for human conduct and culture for thousands of years. But people today murder and kill more than ever before. And here the so-called "Christian states" are no exception. The followers of the other world religions also kill to a greater or lesser extent. But Westerners, who are mainly Christian, have been able to set a record regarding their ability to make lethal weapons, by means of which they have multiplied their ability to kill a millionfold. But of what use is this enormous murderous know-how? People believe that this gigantic military capacity can abolish war. But how could that be so? Oppressing the weaker states with this enormous power is the same as putting handcuffs on these powers. But a robber or murderer who is put in handcuffs does not thereby become an angel or a man of peace. His consciousness will to a greater or lesser extent be filled with hatred for those who have put him in handcuffs. And he will sooner or later find an opportunity to break loose. Then the revenge or the hatred will to a greater or lesser extent burst into flames. This applies equally to the oppressed states, a fact amply exemplified by history. And what about a power that oppresses weaker states in this way? Does it constitute a power for peace? Is it humaneness or love to use one's superior lethal weapons and military machinery to tie and bind other powers? It is only a question of time before those in power or the victors will lie bound hand and foot by their own arc of karma or fate. What a human being sows he must reap (Gal. 6.7). The same applies of course to every state or unified group of people.
