13.2  The energy of instinct promotes the organism's automatism and faculty to have an inkling
How do the basic energies manifest themselves? They manifest themselves by their special ability of display. For instance, we observe that all forms of plant life grow and come into existence quite automatically. This is the case with other beings' physical organisms and their inner functions. This automatism is triggered by the first basic energy. We know this under the concept of instinct. But this energy is not only a regulator of functions; it also constitutes, like the other five basic energies, an energy of consciousness and thought. Yet, it cannot give its source – the I – full, realistic experiences. When functioning at its best it can produce only an "inkling". All that exists in the living being's mental life under the concept of an "inkling", is thus a result of its faculty of instinct or the first basic energy. It is also the inkling-consciousness that promotes man's religious belief. Religious belief is not promoted by facts or science, but only by strong experiences of having an inkling. Religious authorities clothe these religious inklings in words and language that makes them points of support for their temporary religious views. Therefore a great part of terrestrial mankind is led and guided in its still very unfinished condition by religious authorities. These authorities are known under the concept of "prophets" and "world redeemers" and the priesthoods they have instituted.
