Livets Bog, vol. 5
The masculine being's attraction to the feminine being is due to its drive for self-preservation or self-love
1597. In only one area are its feelings somewhat milder in character, namely in relation to beings of the opposite sex. But this loving care is still more "self-love" than "neighbourly love". If the organic structure of the "masculine" being did not require the "feminine" being to be the object of its entire sphere of interest, and thus to be a contributory condition for its own happiness and joy in living, the "feminine" beings would constitute an equally splendid target for the masculine being's bloodthirstiness just like other beings are, and their flesh and blood would be consumed with as much pleasure as the animal remains of other murdered beings. A "feminine" being is thus a vital necessity for the above-mentioned being and is therefore included in the sphere of defence of this being's own life. So it is not unselfish love or sympathy that makes a masculine being exempt "feminine" beings from its tendency to kill and persecute, for such a feeling does not exist in the being in question. It will not vibrate in this being's breast until thousands of centuries later in the great spiral cycle of the world plan. The favour enjoyed by "feminine" beings in the consciousness of the one hundred per cent "masculine" being is thus in reality due only to the "masculine" being's self-love, and to the indispensability of these "feminine" beings for its own drive for self-preservation.
