Livets Bog, vol. 4
In the highest spiritual world, consciousness is that which is "visible" and the organisms are that which is "invisible". "Death" is merely "life" in a latent form
1550. In the spiritual or ray-formed world one thus sees not so much the beings' organisms as their consciousness or world of thoughts. Here on the physical plane, on the contrary, one sees more the beings' organisms and bodies than their world of thoughts or consciousness. For this reason life or consciousness in the spiritual world is to the very highest degree something "externally" visible as a contrast to life or consciousness in the physical world, which appears almost exclusively as something "internal", and is therefore more or less invisible. But it is precisely this circumstance that contributes to the physical world being described as "death", while the spiritual world is described as "life". Where life is least manifest or visible, it represents "death" to a greater extent than where it is completely visible. "Death" is thus but a name for "life" in the state in which it is most invisible to the senses, while "life", on the contrary, is the very culmination of the complete liberation or independence of the faculty to experience, where it constitutes the faculty for seeing everything that bears the name of "cosmic consciousness".
