1541. And how should this being be able to see or understand these principles in any other way? In the kingdom of the "dead" the forces of pleasantness are known only as favouritism, and the forces of unpleasantness as manifestations of persecution or anger. For this reason the "dead" or "cosmically unconscious" being sees everything as nothing but "favouritism" or "persecution". It does not understand that these two principles are neither persecution nor favouritism on the part of Providence, but are purely and simply factors or forces by means of which the Godhead creates love from the cosmic plane. Nor does this being therefore know that this primitive view of these factors or forces is due solely to the restricted intellectual powers or complete "cosmic unconsciousness" that it has because of its "eating of the tree of knowledge", and that this primitive perception is therefore in a way the "sign of death" showing that this "cosmically unconscious" or "dead" being is cosmically "dead".
