When a natural sexual hunger is not satisfied
848. Of course this does not mean that the individual must, with all its strength, conform to this or that traditional dogma, or to what has been established as "normal" within this or that religious sect or community of a certain epoch, for if a human being, who in its evolution is far away from that epoch's particular dogmas or opinions on sexual matters, were to conform to such dogmas it could actually undermine its consciousness and thereby be lethal. Evolution does not stand still. To establish a four- or five-thousand-year-old dogma as a prescription for a present-day human being's advanced emotional life cannot in all situations be proclaimed as absolutely the most healthy and correct thing to do. The main requirement in the satisfaction of any form of hunger is therefore not what has been written, or what the sages have said, or what is customary or has been set up as authorised morality, it is nothing other than the fact that the hunger is a natural hunger, an unavoidable need of the organism and mentality for a renewal, a definite need for nourishment that will enable the flourishing and maintenance of the vital force, which is in turn the same as the sensation of the natural pleasure in being alive. If the hunger is of such a nature, it is a voice, a call or a natural ability that helps to promote the maintenance of the being's eternal life and existence. If no heed is taken of this voice, this call, or this demand, it will be a kind of "hunger strike" or "suicide". Of course it cannot result in death, as the I is immortal, but if this demand is not heeded in an appropriately healthy manner, it can in the worst cases lead to the previously mentioned darkness of the padded cell, no matter how much this "asceticism" or attitude towards sexuality has been a fulfilment of authorised dogmas and precepts.
