Star figure no. 4 – Thought or the creation of ideas
683. But if Nature's entire appearance so indisputably reveals logic, it is also established as a fact that all phenomena in Nature are expressions of a plan or plans. But plans can exist only as identical to ideas, and these in turn cannot possibly exist without being identical to combinations of thoughts. But as combinations of thoughts are in turn unfailingly the same as consciousness, all Nature's processes and phenomena must be identical to consciousness. This fact is the fourth basic answer to the mystery of life. The reason that when we look at the fourth star field in the symbol we see a part of our own solar system is because it should symbolise the fact that this system is an expression of an idea; it is a living, organic function, whose kinds of movements can just as impossibly exist without being expressions of life or consciousness as one's own organism's kinds of movements or functions. In other words, Nature's manifestations and our own manifestations are of the same kind. They can exist only as expressions of life, will and experience. Given truthful observation, no proof of any kind can be found that shows Nature's manifestations of energy to be less logical than our own, on the contrary, there are in fact innumerable cases where the seeking researcher would find it hard to match Nature's enormously logical perfection. And, for that matter, what is it he is seeking? Is it not Nature's creative methods and purposes that, in the form of morality and idealism, he is seeking to make into a model for building up his own development of intellectuality, that is to say his own capability in intelligence and feeling? What is it that forms the basis of schools, universities and colleges other than the experience of Nature's planning and intentions? Is not all attainment of intellectuality or advanced development based precisely on such a sharpening of intelligence and feeling? What is the purpose of this sharpening if any chance manifestation of energy could produce the same result? No, the fact that logic and intention form the unshakable foundation of all manifestations confronts the advanced researcher in everything that he does, and it thereby becomes a living reality that everything in existence constitutes functions of consciousness, whether they be outside his own organism and the area governed by his will or they be inside his organism and the area governed by his will.
