Livets Bog, vol. 3
The killing principle is the focal point in the great question: "What is truth?" The symbol and the macrocosmos, microcosmos and mesocosmos
678. What is particularly puzzling to the advanced human being, or the beginner seeker after truth, is the question of suffering and darkness, with all the difficulties of everyday existence, illness, accidents, wars, unemployment and all the hardships that these entail, as well as hatred, envy, unrequited love and unhappy marriages, excessive wealth and overwhelming poverty etc. To the honest being who is hungry for justice all these phenomena can probably look like one great injustice. But as the evolved or advanced civilised human being refuses to believe that injustice, hatred and suffering are in reality life's final answer, and at the same time it is unable, without help, to find justice and thereby love in life's own seemingly so dark revelation, this revelation looks as if it is an unfathomable mystery. And the being's consciousness cries out to the heavens: "What is truth?"
What is therefore a mystery or a riddle for the advanced civilised human being is all the dark phenomena in the world that together constitute what we in "Livets Bog" call the "killing principle". This principle is in the symbolism used in this book expressed by the orange colour. It is this principle that is in fact the focal point in this major question. And this is the reason why we have coloured the outermost rim of the symbol orange. It is intended to express darkness and suffering. Inside this rim we can see a sun-like figure coloured green and yellow. This is intended to express life itself. Without the sun nothing would exist of the life that is accessible to the set of senses of the seeker after truth. In the centre we also find a sun. This expresses the seeker after truth himself. He appears as a little sun, which means as a centre of energy within the domain of the large sun. Within this smaller sun we can see another even smaller sun. This is intended to express that part of life that pulsates within his own organism. It is a fact that this organism consists of myriads of tiny living beings or centres of life. The seeker after truth therefore finds himself to be the midpoint between the two forms of manifestation of energy or revelations of life. He is witness to a great revelation of energy above him in the form of everything that comes under the concept of heavenly bodies and sun- and star-cities, just as he is witness to a revelation of energy beneath him, consisting of organs, cells, molecules, atoms etc. within himself. These two revelations of energy he knows respectively as the concepts of the "macrocosmos" and the "microcosmos". But at the same time he himself and his fellow beings exist as an intermediate revelation of energy in this panorama. And this is why we have here in "Livets Bog" termed this revelation or form of energy the "mesocosmos". The three sun-like figures in the symbol express these three cosmoses. The reason they are coloured yellow and green we will come back to later.
