Livets Bog, vol. 2
We use meteorological expressions in our language for states of mind.
473. Therefore the unfolding of the living being's consciousness and manifestation of thought – as touched upon here and which we will understand from what follows – is identical in principle with the ordinary physical climatic conditions during the seasons of the year. That is also the reason why in our language, we have gradually accustomed ourselves, although unconsciously, to use many meteorological expressions as indications of thoughts or states of mind. We say, for instance, "she looked at him with icy coldness". "He has a rather cool nature". "They are lukewarm". Similarly, the expressions "fire in the eye", "a dark nature", "a light nature' and "heartwarming' are to a great extent the equivalent of mental conditions. Furthermore, one also uses the expressions "volcanic", "earthshaking", "the eyes shot lightning", "he struck sparks", as expressions for mental states. Terrestrial man has not yet any clear and conscious grasp of the fact that those states of mind in reality are forms of meteorological manifestations in the true sense of the word. It is not until this point, through "Cosmic Chemistry", that this recognition becomes reality.
