460. As we have seen it is the individuals' connection to "cosmic consciousness" which constitutes the entire basis of the character of his manifestation and behaviour in the spiral. This consciousness constitutes the very highest contact that can be made by a living being with everything else in existence and therefore is the absolute basis of all perfection in the Universe. Indeed, it actually constitutes a being's experience of the Godhead's own consciousness. Thus, "cosmic consciousness" becomes the fundamental basis for the whole of existence. It is a guide or a yard-stick for the creation of all life-experience. Any divergence from this form of consciousness constitutes primitiveness, creating imperfection, disharmony, brutality, destruction and ruin. But as this disintegration can only overtake a being's primitiveness and its associated destructive effects so that "cosmic consciousness" can again become the dominating factor in the individual's day-consciousness and this domain (as is shown by Symbol No. 10 later in "Livets Bog") extends over five sixths of the whole area of the spiral, then it must be admitted that it is this form of consciousness which is the only light in the Universe wherein the absolute eternal truth can be experienced, assessed and recognized. All beings devoid of "cosmic consciousness" are ruled to a certain extent by primitiveness. They are beings who are asleep, beings in whom the ability to experience the absolute reality of life and their own highly divine identity and origin as everlasting sons of God is temporarily in abeyance.
