Livets Bog, vol. 1
No absolute value whatsoever exists on the physical plane. Terrestrial mankind begins to be able to sense the intentions behind movements within the area of fellow beings of its own or related species but cannot experience the intentions behind the cosmic powers, the movements of planets, natural forces and the forces of fate, and must therefore be satisfied with "relative" values. Beyond the Great Birth the individual experiences all "fixed points" and thereby absolute values and the identity of living beings as "sons of God" and, in beginning to experience life in reality he becomes a "real human being" united with the Father
244. As a purpose is the same as "desire for manifestation" and this again constitutes a mental or spiritual reality, the purpose cannot exist on the physical plane but only the movement which is the instrument for the fulfilment of the purpose. Therefore, on the physical plane there can in no way exist any absolute values. There all physical values are synonymous with movements sensed or measured on the basis of other movements and their object is to fulfil purposes. On account of terrestrial man's incipient spiritual bodies, meaning the bodies of feeling and intelligence, he can begin to experience true values behind the movements within a certain area. This area extends only to the zone of fellow beings of his own kind and meets a periphery or border according to where the movements appear with unknown kinds of fellow beings as their source. And the further away these sources are from terrestrial man's step in evolution the further he is from experiencing the true values behind the movements, and he therefore has to content himself with answers which are "relatively right"; in other words, a calculation of movements on the basis of other movements. That part of the individual's consciousness where it is possible to experience the absolute values or purposes behind movements constitutes the growing spiritual day-consciousness, while that part of the same day-consciousness which can experience only movements and not purposes constitutes the physical day-consciousness and the commencement of spiritual subconsciousness.
Although terrestrial mankind is able to experience to a great extent the purposes behind the movements of fellow beings, that is, their manifestations, it is not possible to experience the purposes behind all those greater movements we know as cosmic powers, the movements of the Globe, the forces of nature, the fate of mankind and so on. In this area the individual has to content himself with relative values, because his spiritual bodies are still not so sensitive on the spiritual plane that he can sense the existing "purposes" and the sources or "fixed points" behind those movements. However, beyond the Great Birth the individual senses all "fixed points" and experiences nothing but absolute truths. With the experience of the absolute truths, his Godhead becomes no longer an idol, not a perception of a movement as a "fixed point" or the perception of a "dead thing" as "living", but a perception of God in the form of all fixed and moving points, in the form of the entire universe and in the form of a Godhead appearing as everything both living and lifeless. We must leave further particulars of this experience to special chapters later in Livets Bog but just add here that with this experience of the Godhead, the plane of love, or the real human kingdom, begins to become a reality penetrated by light from the divine world and the kingdom of bliss. And with this experience the individual is made aware that living beings have an identity as "sons of God"; and each subsequent experience will be for him the same as meeting with the manifestation and language of the Godhead. Every form of feeling, sound, colour, vibration - every form of life - will in this way express the all-penetrating Living Being. And with this "fixed point" for his existence the individual begins to experience "true life". At this point the animal has become a real human being and the son of God has met his Father.
