But if the party mentioned here does not have cosmic consciousness, then it, like the other conflicting party, would be more or less unfinished, be more or less still a minor. This "minority" or "infancy" would then again cause its owners to fail to understand the opposite party, thereby forming the basis for mutual strife or war and irreconcilability between the parties, and we have before us the condition that is, so to speak, generally applicable to the Earth's human beings of today. Any kind of strife between individuals can exist only with the circumstances mentioned here as the main cause. Every discord has thus exclusively its root in mental "immaturity" or lack of high-intellectuality. Every individual's persecution of another individual, be it in the form of slander, evil criticism, brutality, violence, maiming or plain murder, can never in any circumstance be the expression for high-intellectuality or fully developed senses. These symptoms can never be anything other than the result of a lack of material of experience, a lack of human maturity. These symptoms make it an unassailable fact, and thereby a science, for the sufficiently developed inquirer that such beings, from a cosmic point of view, in reality do not know what they are doing. Their perception of the situation is quite illusory. They believe that their opponents can be different from they are, this illusion thus always being the reason for the strife. How can a being physically have any other height than it has at the moment? How can it have another mental height, another character, another mental attitude or perception of a momentary situation other than the one it has at the moment? It can, as time passes, to a certain extent alter its life, its mental attitude and perception of its surroundings or its fellow beings, but its action or nature in the now or at the moment, cannot possibly be different, because, if this were the case, the being would have to have had quite another past with quite a different fate, quite different parents; it must have come from quite a different family, another social level, other social conditions and the like. Being indignant, brutal and revengeful towards another individual is the same as persecuting or tormenting this being because it has not had this necessary past with the necessary previous conditions mentioned here. That the individual itself abundantly can fulfil the conditions that he so intensely demands or expects of others shows only that he has himself had the necessary previous conditions, of which our fulfilment or imagined exemplary conduct invariably would be the result. But is it not foolish to demand the behaviour shown here where the previous conditions are totally lacking? In truth, it was not without reason that world redemption was needed. It was not without reason that a being had to be born that, with high-intellectual insight, could turn its life into one great practising of "turning the right cheek when smitten on the left", a being that, with radiating mildness, could forgive all his executioners. It was not without reason that a "comforter, the Holy Spirit", which means a revelation of consciousness through which this exalted being's behaviour could be justified – not as the naïve appearance of a simpleton – but as a scientifically based revelation of a behaviour's highest contact with the laws of the universe or a divine wandering in the footsteps of the Godhead; in other words, a radiating guidance on how the Christmas message of the angels to the shepherds in the field – "peace on Earth" – can become reality and thereby be "glory to God in the highest, and on Earth, good will toward men!"
